NEWS RELEASE
Letter of Commendation to the Pomona Chamber of Commerce for the Employment and Training Task Force/ Los Angeles County L.A. Performance and Partnership Pilot (LA P3).
Pomona, CA July 22, 2020 – The Pomona Chamber of Commerce has been recognized with a letter of Commendation from the Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board. The College, Career & Workforce Development Taskforce (Taskforce) as a model for the Los Angeles County L.A. Performance and Partnership Pilot (LA P3) initiative to effect major cross-systems change to improve the overall outcomes for disconnected youth ages 16 -24 in terms of education, workforce, housing and social well-being. We are pleased that the Taskforce has taken on this initiative and sent it to the next level.
Approximately 12 years ago, in response to draconian budget cuts during the Great Recession, the Pomona Unified School District (PUSD) Adult School established the Taskforce to initiate strategic partnerships with local government entities including the Pomona Chamber of Commerce, and the San Antonio Regional Occupational Program.
Since the Taskforce’s inception, it has evolved into a significant multi-agency partnership. Within the last 18 months, the Pomona Valley America’s Job Center of California (PV-AJCC) joined the Taskforce and introduced the LA P3 initiative in the Pomona area. At the suggestion of Dr. Enrique Medina, the Taskforce now fully champions the vision of LA P3 as the efforts were merged. It is this type of synergy that has transformed the monthly convenings to be hubs of innovation, creativity and real opportunity.
The shared leadership with PUSD is supported by Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS), the Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board, and San Antonio ROP. As a further testament to the commitment and credibility of this group, the Pomona area will soon have the first solar panel factory in the region brining much needed jobs and economic growth as a direct result of this remarkable Taskforce.
